Tennessee Baby Shower

Here are some pictures from a few weeks ago. Logan's family threw up a baby shower in Tennessee. My sweet nephew Cole was a big help with the gift opening and demonstrated how to use the gifts. If I got a blanket, he would lay down on the ground to be covered by the blanket. He would put the pacifiers in his mouth. He was so cute! It was so nice and Logan's family was so generous. I have not blogged in a really long time, but wanted to get a bit caught up, so I will post some things from December and hopefully get caught up.

Logan and I took a trip to Nashville right before Christmas, which was his surprise Christmas gift. We stayed with some friends there and went to the Andrew Peterson Behold the Lamb of God show at the Ryman Auditorium. We had a wonderful time and it was a fun get away!

Being Delighted

Hey folks, this is Lisa's husband speaking. As many of you know, Lisa loves her birthday (and in general all celebrations that involve the giving and receiving of gifts). So I thought it would be appropriate, since this is the week of Lisa's birthday, to get on her blog and write a little bit about her. Those who know Lisa, I am sure will agree with what is written below.

I remember before Lisa and I began dating, I heard one of her friends say of her "I have never met any who loves life more than Lisa." Over the past three years of our marriage, I have seen this statement played out daily. She skips as she walks, she gets excited about the little things in her day, she takes every opportunity to delight in something mundane, and she genuinely loves to be around people. I can also testify that she wakes up first thing in the morning ridiculously excited about her day (often woken up early by her excitement).

It was said of the great thinker and author C.S. Lewis that his brilliance was rooted in his deep ability to be delighted. When I read this, I thought it describes Lisa perfectly. Often, we miss out on the wonder of the things around us because business or stress blinds us to its beauty. We stubbornly refuse to let the good things around us actually delight us, and we fail to let the pain around us break us. Not Lisa. She has the emotional depth of the Pacific. Lisa has the gift of being able to be genuinely excited about the good things that are going on around her, and genuinely heart broken by the pain of those around her. This makes Lisa an amazing friend and spouse as she can empathize and rejoice so deeply. So, Lisa on your birthday thanks for showing the rest of us what it looks like to care for other people and reminding us to open our eyes and rejoice about the grace that is all around us.

That's right. We had picked a boy and girl name years ago after we were married when our friends started having babies, just sort of joking around what we might name our kids and it has stuck! We looked for other names, but didn't like anything as much as the name we picked years ago...

Jack Robert

So, we have loved the name Jack. Robert is actually Logan's first name and a big family name for him, as he is about the 5th generation to have Robert as the first or middle name, so we wanted to keep it in the family for sure! Jack means the graciousness of God, which is an extra bonus, as we love the meaning. Just wanted to share with everyone! We can't wait to meet him!

Baby Nursery Walls & Painted Furniture

So, remember our office. Well, now it is on it's way to becoming the babies room!! Here are some pictures so far. My parents and Logan's parents each spent a weekend helping us paint furniture and walls, which included over 4 hours of taping with a laser level! We have not bought one thing, but found most of it in our shed. I am so thankful for their help and glad to have so much of it done, now I can just decorate it!!

DIY Chalkboard Mirror

In all my excitement, I did not take 1 before picture. This was a mirror my mother in law and I found at a garage sale. It was a gold frame with a mirror. I spray painted the frame white and the mirror with chalkboard paint. And here is the finished product!! I just need to get some chalk!

We had a great vacation last week. We went to Boston for a few days and then onto Maine for the week. Here are some pictures from our trip and a 16 week belly shot....

Upholstered Headboard!!

I am so excited about this new headboard. Logan was wonderful to help me with this project (mainly did it, I just directed). Here is my upholstered headboard...

1. Gather Supplies...Malet, Nail Heads, Fabric, Foam, Batting, Plywood, Hooks to hang on the wall

2. Lots of directions and ideas to help

3. We got our piece of plywood cut to size at the store, which just saved a step for Logan at home!

4. Using a staple gun, we attached foam to plywood...

5. Next came the batting, which we did 2 layers.

6. Then comes the fabric. I got 2 yards of a beautiful linette (appearance of linen, but more durable)

7. Attaching the nail heads was the next task to tackle. I bought 5 yards of them in a strand, and then you nail every 4th one into the plywood.

Next came the hooks to secure it on the wall, which took lots of measuring and leveling...

And the finished product, still need to do some rearranging of pictures, etc.

I am very pleased and really enjoying my new headboard. It is a very cheap way to recreate a beautiful upholstered headboard!

Fall is on my Front Porch!!

We just got back from a WONDERFUL vacation to Boston and Maine (pics to come) and when I came home this is what I found on my front porch! My dear friend Lauren, decorated my front porch while we were on vacation because 1. she is so sweet 2. she knew i wasn't feeling up to it. It was such a surprise and so nice, so here are the beautiful pictures! (Also, I've done a few projects lately, so posts to come of those as well)

15 Weeks

15 weeks!! I am really hoping that I am turning the corner this week to feeling better! I'll let you know. Our baby is now 4 inches long and about the size of an apple. Our baby can sense light and it's taste buds are forming. And our babies primitive air sacs in the lungs are developing! We heard the heart beat at the doctor last week and scheduled our ultrasound where we will find out if it's a boy or a girl on Oct. 25th. That is 4 weeks from today, we can hardly wait!

And the belly is growing....

Church at the Ballpark

This past Sunday, our church hosted an event at the Durham Bulls Ball Park where we had all the campuses together for one service in one place! It was awesome! Logan played and sang along with all the other worship pastors of the other campuses. Our pastor preached. We had over 300 people baptized and there were over 7200 people there. It was awesome!

12 Week Pictures & Our Anniversary

For our anniversary 2 weeks ago, Logan planned a wonderful evening...we walked around UNC's Campus and took a 12 week belly shot. We went to a bluegrass concert on the lawn of the Carolina Inn, had dinner at Southern Rail, and dessert at Mapleview Farms. We had a wonderful time celebrating 3 years and 12 weeks of our baby!!

Here is 12 weeks!! The belly is definitely there!

A touch of blue....

I so badly wanted at least a touch of blue in our living room. Here is the beginning of that touch, with a few more touches to come. My mom helped me make these panel curtains (like I have made before). I am very excited about them and they look great! With my mom helping me, it took us 5 hours to make all 4 panel curtains!!

And here's a hint of the next touches of blue to come and how I'm going to tie the blue and green together!! Can't wait for new pillows on the couch!!

So, I'm sorry that I have been so behind in blogging. I have been quite nauseous and exhausted, and have not had the energy to blog, but I'm back.

So in case you haven't already figured it out....

We're having a BABY!! We are extremely excited and thankful to God for this blessing! I am due March 18th!

Tiered Serving Plates

I made these plates to use for outdoor patio parties, such as the baby shower we just threw. I got the idea from Centsational Girl's blog.

I first primed the plates with white....

I them primed the glasses with a glass frost spray paint...

And then I added color!

I played around with some designs and desided it looked more like easter eggs and decided to go with all solid!

I then used a silicone glue to glue the plates to the glasses and create tiers.

And here's the finished product...the yellow one on the left and the blue one on the right. You always want to use doiles before putting your food on the plates. Sorry it is so hard to see, I can't believe I didn't take a close up picture...

We have a college student staying with us this summer through an internship program at our church called City Project. We have had Grace staying with us and she has taught us how to cook a few of our favorite chinese dishes. Here are some pictures from our nights of cooking along with the dumpling recipe she typed up for us! All the food was DELICIOUS!

Dumplings

Ingredients:

Dumpling Peels (circle)

1 lb. Ground Pork

1 lb. Shrimp

1 Head of Cabbage

Ginger

Green Onions

Salt

Sugar

Black and White Pepper

Cornstarch

Soy Sauce

Vegetable oil

Cooking Wine

Directions:

Prepare the Pork

1. Open the bag of pork and add:

1 tsp salt

1 tsp sugar

2-3 slices of Ginger and dice

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp vegetable oil

Sprinkle some black pepper and white pepper

1 tbsp cooking wine

2. Close the pork bag (try to get rid of most of the air in the bag)

3. Mix the contents in the bag by squeezing the bag with your hands. Make sure the contents are well/evenly mixed.

4. Refrigerate and start on the Shrimp

Prepare the Shrimp

5. Shell the shrimp if necessary

6. Cut the shrimp in half from head to tail (will have 2 symmetrical pieces)

7. Place shrimp in bowl and add:

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp cooking wine

8. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes

9. Rinse out with water (after dumping out the water from the bowl, let sit for about 1 minute)

10. Add 1 tbsp cornstarch

11. Refrigerate and start on vegetables

Prepare the Vegetables

12. Take the head of cabbage and dice it. Should fit in a large pot. (Probably work section by section)

13. Add 2-3 tsp of salt

14. Mix the diced cabbage and salt with hands (squeeze out the water) (After mixing and squeezing, should fit in a bowl)

15. Dice 1 shoot of green onions and put it on the side

Mixing of the ingredients

16. Take out the pork mix from the refrigerator and open the bag

17. Mix in the diced green onions

18. Mix in the diced cabbage

19. MAKE SURE THE CONTENTS ARE WELL/EVENLY MIXED!!

Wrapping the Dumplings

20. Fill a bowl halfway with warm/hot water

21. Get the dumpling skins out of the refrigerator

22. Take the pork mix and the shrimp out of the refrigerator

23. Using a tsp or tbsp, scoop some of the pork mix onto the middle of the dumpling peel

24. Place half a shrimp on top of the pork ball on the peel

25. Make your finger wet and trace the outside of the peel

26. Fold entire peel in half and pleat the edges to seal the dumpling.

Storing the Dumplings

27. After filling up a plate, place in the freezer for about 15-30 minutes

28. After the skins have hardened, take the dumplings and place in sandwich/gallon bags

Cooking the Dumplings

Boiling:

1. Fill pot about halfway with water

2. Place on stove on High

3. Keep a glass of water on the side

4. Once boiling, place dumplings in the pot and stir for a little bit

5. Once it boils again, add water (#1) and keep stirring

6. Once it boils again, add water (#2) and keep stirring

7. Once it boils again, add water (#3) and keep stirring

8. Once it boils again, you can take out the dumplings and place on plate

9. EATTTTTT!!!!!

Potstickers:

1. Add some vegetable oil to a large non-stick pan

2. Place on stove on High

3. Keep a glass of water on the side

4. Add the dumplings to the pan by dipping in the oil and spreading it to another spot

5. Repeat until pan is filled (add more oil if necessary)

6. When filled, add water (#1) so that it is a thin layer covering the bottom of the pan

7. Cover pan with lid and wait

8. Keep watch for the water… once there is little to no more water left, add water (#2) and move the dumplings around a little bit to make sure they don’t stick to the bottom too much

9. Keep watch for the water… once there is little to no more water left, add water (#3) and move the dumplings around a little bit to make sure they don’t stick to the bottom too much

10. Once there is no more water left, take out dumplings and place on plate

11. EATTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

We spent the week of the 4th in Charleston on Folly Beach with Logan's family. We had a wonderful time. We went into Charleston a few evenings and mornings, and spent lots of time on the beach playing with our nephew Cole!

New Lens

This, I am so excited about!!! It is a fixed 35mm lens (closest thing to the naked eye, basically). It is so clear, you can see yourself in your subjects eye!

How to Clean your Outdoor Patio Cushions

This is the greatest stuff!! It was given to me to try it out just to be a success story. It is CRYPTON OUTDOOR FURNITURE CLEANER. It works really well! As you can see, I have white patio cushions (which is not a smart idea, but it came with the furniture). I should of taken before pictures, which I didn't, but you can imagine how dirty they were. I simply sprayed on the cleaner, lightly scrubbed it with this brush, let it sit for a minute or 2, and then rinsed it off, and then hung them to dry...

I am very excited about how clean they got and I plan on taking them inside until we use them again once they dry.

We have some new next door neighbors in the house that was just renovated! We are very excited about this, and I went to bring them a welcome to the neighborhood treat...

It is a mango key lime pie, unfortunately my sign didn't stay in there very well though (I used my silhouette to cut everything out!)

I was inspired at the beach by a mango pie dessert we have in Beaufort (it was AMAZING!), so I wanted to try to make one, here is the recipe I used...

MANGO KEY LIME PIE
1/4 c. lime juice 1 can sweetened condensed milk 2 egg yolks 1 1/2 c. mango puree 2 egg whites 1 (9 inch) graham cracker crust Thoroughly mix lime juice, condensed milk, egg yolks and mango puree. Beat egg whites with dash of salt to stiff peaks. Fold in mango mixture. Add to crust and chill until firm.

How to Plant Flowers in a Window Box

So, after you have your window boxes and mount them, there are a couple things to do. They often do not retain water and the plants dry out very quickly, to avoid this, I cut a trashbag to line the window boxes.

After that, cut a few small holes to allow for drainage...

Take your flowers out of the pots and loosen up the roots...

Put the trash bags in the boxes with extra on the sides (you can tuck the extra in after you plant everything)

Place your plants where you want them...

You some fertilizer or something of the sort...

For my ivy, I placed it to grow up my window and guided it up the side...

Then fill in the dirt and tuck in the trash bags and water and enjoy them!

Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, & New Bern

We had a great long weekend with my parents on the coast of North Carolina. We went to a few towns that we had never been to and had a great time! We relaxed on the beach, ate some good seafood, saw some history, went to the aquarium, and enjoyed some cute shops!

With lots of cute baskets, still have to officially arrange/organize/decorate these shelves...

a yellow painted tray for our shoes, eventually just a couple essential shoes will be on the tray and the rest will be away in baskets under my bench...

Hooks have been painted and are ready to be hung/drilled/liquid nailed...

I have my bench, but haven't put it together yet...
