Step 1: Make red frosting, which is not as easy as one would think. You have to use almost an entire thing of red food coloring, so use the no taste red (so that you don't taste all that food coloring you use). I also made it a few days in advance to give it time to sink in.
Step 2: Make the cupcakes, I made funfetti because there so good, easy, and kid friendlyStep 3: Use Wilton tip # 233 to make the stringy frosting for the elmo fur...
Step 4: I cut marshemellows in half for the whites of the eyes...
Step 5: I used black jelly beans cut in half for the blacks of the eyes...
I used a orange sour ball (or you could use a gum ball) for the nose...
They are easy to make and really fun for a kids birthday party!
These cupcakes are just too cute! I'm a new follower!
ReplyDeleteHello Lisa, I just found you via Sarah's Goodlife Wednesday. Your little cakes are fantastic. What a pity...my son just turned 21 and had a 90's themed party...these would have been perfect! We did the Martha Stewart Orio cake instead...it was a hit, but these would have been fab! Well Done. Robx
ReplyDeleteLisa- Your lil Elmos are precious. We are huge Elmo fans here. I made similiar ones for Moose's 2nd birthday. Thanks for bringing up those sweet memories for me. I remember how tricky the red food coloring was to get the true elmo red.
ReplyDeleteI'd LOVE if you could link up again Creative Juice Thursday. Party starts @ 7pm CST. Get your crafting shoes on. Hope to see you there...
My 2 yr old son would absolutely love these...he has a stuffed Elmo as big as he is that has to be with him all the time. He also loves to bake with me, so it would be a good things for him to 'help' with! Thanks for the idea!

Saw these on HOH...and had to come check them out! SO, so cute! I love the hairy look with using that tip. And, you got GREAT color, which is SO difficult with red. Where did you get the "no taste" red?
ReplyDeleteThe No Taste Red is the Wilton Brand, which you can either get at Michael's and now Walmart carries it too! I think it's cheaper at Walmart, but if you use a 40% or 50% off coupon at Michaels, then it's cheaper there.
ReplyDeleteLove me some Elmo and your cupcakes are adorable! Found you at Allie's blog, and I "followed" you! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHehe....these are so cute! :)
